Best Buy Summer Classic in Bloomington This Week
The Best Buy Summer Classic, hosted by Minnesota Pump N Run, takes place starting today (Thursday, July 19) and runs through Sunday in Bloomington. Most of the games are at Jefferson high school with others at nearby Kennedy.
Schedules (17U, 16U, 15U) are available in PDF format at minnesotapumpnrun.com. They are subject to change, so check back before heading to the gym if you're looking to see a particular team.
Player to Watch: Robert Hubbs of M33M (TN):
Hubbs is a 6'5" wing from the 2013 class who has the attention of many elite college basketball programs and scouting services (Scout #21, ESPN #87, Rivals #11). His team is scheduled to take on the host school at 3:50pm on Friday and a rematch in bracket play later this weekend is possible as well. Minnesota guard Andre Hollins and his White Station team took down Hubbs' Dyer County squad in convincing fashion a year and a half ago, when Dre scored 28 (including 21 in the second half) and limited Hubbs to just 12.

Big Ten Recruiting - 2013 Class
The 2012-13 Gophers are primed for a good season. They should be a tournament team and have the talent to make a push toward even a third or fourth place conference finish. That's a great short-term outlook, but next spring Minnesota will say farewell to three significant contributors: Trevor Mbakwe, Rodney Williams and Julian Welch.
With at least four scholarships expected to be available for the 2013 incoming class, what Tubby Smith and his staff are able to do on the recruiting trail becomes especially important. There is time left to get good things done, but late next month verbal commitments across the nation will really start rolling in and by the start of the 2012-13 season in November we'll have a good idea of how the class is going to shape up. Compared to their conference peers, the Gophers are not in a great position at the present time. That can change quickly, but between recruiting and APR scores, Tubby Smith and his staff have plenty more to deal with than just the upcoming season.
