Coach Brewster has the opportunity to land some big time in-state O-line talent in the class of 2010, and one of those targets is Irondale High School junior, Jimmy Gjere. At 6-7, 270lbs, Gjere has already attracted major recruiting interest including early offers from Minnesota and Wisconsin. Gjere recently attended the Minnesota/Iowa game where he spoke with GopherHole on the field prior to kickoff where he updated his recruitment, his thoughts on his junior football season and the regular updates his mom gives him about the progress of TCF Bank Stadium.
GH: You currently have an offer from Minnesota.
JG: Yes, I do.
GH: Where else do you have offers from?
JG: Just Wisconsin right now.
GH: What kind of interest do you have in Wisconsin?
JG: I don’t know, I’m a Minnesota boy.
GH: What do you like about the Gopher program?
JG: Just the energy they have around here. Coach (Tim) Brewster has brought a lot of energy to this place.
GH: When did you receive your Minnesota offer?
JG: Back on September 1st.
GH: You remember the exact date? That must have been a special moment for you.
JG: I was at my sister’s soccer game, and I was kind of bored. My Mom and Dad came and said, “we’ve got some mail for you,” and they just gave it to me. I opened up the letter and there it was, wow. I didn’t even expect it.
GH: What other schools have shown interest in you?
JG: Just Iowa, they sent a letter requesting film, and Alabama sent a letter for film too.
GH: Have you been to a lot of Gopher games this year?
JG: I came to one of the first games, and since then, I haven’t been able to make it to another one, until today.
GH: What have you thought about the team, and how you can fit in?
JG: The coaches said they could use me in a big way, I like this team.
GH: What are they recruiting you as?
JG: An offensive lineman.
GH: Have you gotten a chance to meet any of the other recruits?
JG: Actually, Beau Allen just came over and introduced himself, I talked to him for a little bit. I talked to a couple of other guys in the recruiting tent as well.
GH: Have you stopped by the new stadium yet?
JG: No, she (pointing at his mother, Mrs. Gjere) drives by it everyday, so she tells me the progress everyday.
GH: Can you imagine playing there?
JG: No, I can’t actually, it’s amazing.
GH: Are you going to get a tour soon?
JG: I think so.
