Gopher Football 1903 Season

  • Head Coach: Dr. Henry L. Williams (4th season)
  • Overall Record: 3 - 0 - 1
  • Conference Record: 14 - 0 - 1
  • The game against Michigan was called with more than two minutes remaining on the clock because the crowd stormed the field in celebration of tying the game. Michigan's players and coaches evacuated the field for their own safety. The next day, a custodian named Oscar Munson found a water jug Michigan had left behind and he brought it to L. J. Cooke, the head of the athletics department. When Michigan requested the return of their water jug, Cooke's response read tale of the Little Brown Jug, the oldest and most famous of all rivalry trophies.
